Hola chicas!!! Well the time has finally arrived to announce some VERY BIG news….

I have to say GOODBYE to Val Verde Style to introduce the world to my newest joint venture, Style to Envy!

Yes you read right! I’m officially joining blogs with fellow fashion blogger, Nikki Washington of NW Style Co to bring a better blog for your viewing pleasure. Everything will be covered from Fashion to Personal Style to Usable Tips, a little fitness and plenty more, but this time there will be TWICE of EVERYTHING.

So join me and Nikki in this celebration by helping spread the word about Style To Envy!

I know you will enjoy our new venture as much as we will!

Black & Blue Birthday

Hola chicas…sorry I’ve been a little MIA between work conferences and a busy home life I haven’t had the time to blog so please forgive me. This Saturday I celebrated my birthday with a little sushi dinner and decided to share a few snapshots. I’m officially a grown up and have accepted I can’t deny it anymore so I decided to embrace the sophistication and a did a little pop of red on the lip. Confession time…I’m not a huge makeup fan and stick with neutral colors on the lips so this was a stretch for me.

I actually didn’t feel like getting dressed that evening I was in leggings and riding boots all day and loved it sooo much but I spotted this sequin blazer in my closet and decided it was perfect for a birthday outfit. Pair the blazer with simple blue peplum top cause black & blue are in for the Fall and I always loved them together anyway add a statement necklace and arm party for a simple chic birthday look…when in doubt for a birthday outfit add some sparkle and show a little leg.

Like Peanut Butter & Jelly

Hola chicas hope everyone had a great weekend! Last week just wasn’t the best for me computer issues at work which lasted 3 days & counting, a flat tire & just overall in a little funk but I know things will work out so I have to stay positive. As I wait for Fall to stay in Houston I’m at least happy to wear boots again…I LOVE boots. This is a simple little look leopard cardigan over a tank with dark skinny jeans and of course a pop of color with the red bag because leopard and red go together like peanut butter and jelly, don’t you agree?

Fall into a Maxi

Hola chicas the other week someone asked me about wearing a sheer maxi in the fall to the office & put me to a little challenge. Sorry for the bathroom shots but snapped these at the office before I forgot to show the look. A simple top, blazer and pumps make an easy transition for the maxi to office wear in the fall.

Full Circle & David Peck

A few weeks ago I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Full Circle event hosted by CrOp by David Peck for the celebration of a two-season partnership with the Covenant House Texas. The fall soiree was the introduction of the launch of Y.A.C.H.T. The Young Associates for the Covenant House Texas, a professional organization, with an emphasis on raising funds and awareness for Covenant House Texas, is a diverse group of progressive, career-minded young professionals who care about the issue of youth homelessness and want to make a difference.

Young professionals dined on light bites from local organic eatery, Roots Bistro, and sipped the libations of their choice as an informal presentation of CrOp FW 2012 Collection “Coming Home was presented. To add excitement to the event, guests were able to capture a little fun with The Traveling Photo Booth and raffled prizes including an art session and a night on the town in a David Peck dress.

Me and my blogger buddy, Nikki were given the chance to be dressed in a garment of our choice by the sustainable and eco-fashion designer for the evening.

Think Pink!

Hola chicas October is National Breast Cancer awareness Month so I decided to share a way to support the cause and raise awareness by thinking pink. I decided to build a few looks incorporating pink to show support and even including some items which donate proceeds to breast cancer research and foundations like Susan G Komen. Impacting women, men, young, old and all races it is so important we are aware of any early warning signs so monthly self exams are key (I’m sure most of us don’t do this enough!) and be aware of family history. Now for a few fun ways to be fashionable and support breast cancer awareness…hope you enjoy and remember every Thursday of the month wear a little something pink.

The necklace, handbag and shoe all are items which donate a portion of the proceeds to various breast cancer associations. The pink bootie by ShoeDazzle is perfect with just about anything from jeans to the little black dress so you it’s easy to support all month long!

A pink blazer makes everything all right with this sheath perfect for the office, church, or attending an event with friends or your special guy.

Pink pants seem to bring out your inner rock goddess and the sequins just complete the look for a fun ladies night out.

Run errands and be casually cute in this pink trench, cozy sweater and must have wedge sneakers…no excuse not to look your best while supporting this important cause in October. Cadillac VIP

Hola chicas hope you all are having a great week! Back in September during Fashion’s Night Out, I was chosen to be a Cadillac VIP and got to drive the Cadillac CTS-V coupe for an entire week (I’m quite the lucky girl and thanks Houston Area Cadillac Dealers) and finally have pics via Lynne Gabriel to share with you all. This is the look I wore for Fashion’s Night Out and Simon Fashion Now (here)…add a touch of menswear, geometric prints of a dress worn as skirt (stay tuned for tip on how to transform a dress to a skirt) and lots of brights for a fashion forward look. Plus the ensemble looks great next to the electric blue CTS-V coupe

Having the Cadillac CTS-V coupe for a week was in a word – AWESOME!!! One thing this ‘tomboy diva’ loves is CARS…I’ve been attending car shows for years and a sports coupe is kinda my thing. For my birthday last year I treated myself to my DREAM ride the BMW 650, a car I have wanted since the re-release in the US back in the early 2000′s. And while I was car hunting people told me to the CTS V-coupe a try but I decided against that because in my mind nothing could compare to the BMW 6 series. I can admit I was wrong…the Cadillac has everything the interior was luxury defined; little details like the ultra soft steering wheel which wasn’t all leather (I know because it never got too hot in the Texas sun) and features galore – the display screen pops up when you start the car (made me smile each time) and the handling wasn’t too shabby – great acceleration with the V8 and overall smooth ride. While I’m a BMW chick until the end of time, I can say the CTS V-coupe is a nice alternative to the BMW 650 and anyone in the market should check out both! You really can’t go wrong with either one and I was pleasantly surprised!

When you think about it fashion and cars go hand in hand, after all the biggest sponsors for Fashion Week is car company…just a little thought to ponder for the day. Thanks for stopping by and I would love to hear from you!

Jonathan Blake – Bella Donna

Hola chicas last week I was fortunate enough to attend the debut showing of Jonathan Blake‘s Bella Donna collection at the Junior League of Houston. At just 21, Jonathan Tinkle has debuted his collection of timeless wearable, classic and elegant women’s fashions in his hometown of Houston, TX. Inspired by Chanel and Valentino, Jonathan started sketching dresses at just 14 and with a strong support system he is able to see his dream become a reality. I chatted with his mother, Mandy Tinkle, briefly at the event and she said, “I always told Jonathan if you have a goal, write it down and take small steps each day towards achieving it”. If I had half the ambition and drive of this young man at 21 no telling where I would be today, ha. Overall a great night chatting with some of Houston’s finest and always exciting to see local talent on the fashion scene. Fun fact Jonathan Blake’s fashions are manufactured in Houston at David Peck’s studio, lots of support within the local fashion community.

Friday Fitness Tip – you ARE what you EAT

Hola chicas & cheers to the weekend! I have been pondering with the idea of posting about fitness for a while now and decided I would take the plunge today and dive right in. So I’m NO expert but I can say I have maintained about 30 pound weight loss (I am still searching for pics but I avoided many cameras during this time) since my junior year in college (about 8 years - geez I feel old now lol). While I work out a lot I can say nutrition is KEY for a healthy lifestyle.

So here are a few nutrition tips cause you ARE what you EAT:

Eat within the hour of waking up, breakfast kick starts the metabolism for the day and snack about every 3 hours it keeps you burning calories.

Easy shake for breakfast or snack

Portion size is key some easy rules of measurement – half the plate should be veggies

Quick meal grilled chicken breast and chopped asparagus

Eat clean – try to avoid processed foods! They are packed with sodium, sugars and other mystery items

Eating clean with homemade protein bars…great snack anytime

Swap out white for brown – I don’t eat too many carbs but eat whole wheat pasta or bread. Try baking with wheat flour or even almond flour if you are hardcore paleo.
SUGAR is EVIL! I LOOOOOOOVE sweets but opt for pineapples or other fruits. If you want to bake something yummy opt for stevia or agave nectar

Load up on WATER – no calories and many times when you ‘feel’ hungry you are really thirsty. Hydration is key and it helps your skin
You got to LIVE so it’s ok to cheat in moderation….once a week have a small dessert, slice of pizza or whatever you want. Thing about the ‘cheat’ day or meal is once you have been eating clean eating junk will make you SICK.

I just wanted to share a few tips as I get older I can really tell the difference with nutrition. I’m pretty active but consistent good eating habits make for better results in the gym your body just needs the right fuel.
